Creativity , Spirituality and Hypnosis: Transformational Tools in Therapy

Creativity, spirituality and hypnosis: transformational tools in therapy – A workshop with Dr David Smith in Stockport on Friday 20th June 2014 – 09:30 to 16:00

In these secular and materialistic times, mental disturbance is widespread.  Even for the ‘sane’ and healthy; alienation, disaffection and discontent are the order of the day.  The medical world focuses on medication and directive interventions that often provide little more than short term relief.  Yet there is strong evidence that approaches based on creativity and spirituality have the potential to deliver durable transformation; and for hypnosis to be used as a potent tool in therapy.

Dr David Smith of the University of Chicago and St. Bernard’s Hospital is a member of the medical establishment.  However, he is also a leading advocate of alternative approaches.  Dr Smith will be in Europe in June to contribute to the international Society of Psychotherapy Research (SPR) conference in Copenhagen.  Mindsite has taken this opportunity to invite him to run a one day workshop on opportunities for generative transformation through creativity, spirituality and hypnosis.

The paper that Dr Smith will deliver in Copenhagen is on shamanic energy work and he will include an overview of this topic in the workshop.

About the event

The day will comprise the following elements:

  • A brief overview of concepts of creativity
  • An overview of hypnosis and creativity research (experimental and clinical)
  • Suggestions for practical, clinical applications
  • Experiential learning for participants

The workshop will be particularly suitable for hypnotherapists, counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists who have an interest in the topics of creativity and spirituality; and who wish to understand how these potent resources can be enlisted to engender or facilitate transformation in their clients.

The day will describe the theories and techniques of change that are based on creativity and spirituality.  And it will also incorporate experiential learning for the participants.  While it is especially suitable for trained hypnotherapists, it will also be of interest and value to therapists of any modality that have an interest in healing, growth and spirituality.
