Sexual Addiction in Counselling and Psychotherapy-Stockport 18th March 2016

Sexual addiction and compulsivity in counselling and psychotherapy: A workshop with Cate Campbell in Stockport on Friday 18th March 2016

09:30 – 16:00

sexual addiction 1Sexual addiction has traditionally been associated with the rich and famous, and treated as something of a joke rather than a real problem that can destroy health, reputation and relationships. Far from being a myth to explain the behaviour of horny celebrities, sexual addiction is increasingly creeping into the lives of ordinary families and changing them forever.

An increasingly sexualised society, inadequate strategies for dealing with modern stress, and the availability of internet pornography and cybersex, have turned sexual compulsion into almost the default way to wind down. Except that this means of soothing stress can quickly cause it; internet porn changes the brain, making users captive to increasingly harmful behaviours and needs.

This study day explains how and why this happens, who it happens to and how we can identify and help those affected. A range of related issues will be mentioned, including love addiction, chemsex, addicted partners and offending, as well as looking at ways to facilitate recovery.

The day will provide the information therapists need to help them identify sexual addiction and compulsivity, and to facilitate treatment solutions for the addict and their partner, helping you to decide how the day’s learning can be incorporated into your practice.

About the event

This is an important event for all counsellors and psychotherapists.  While not all wish to specialise in sexual issues, all are concerned with the wellbeing of their clients and know the vital importance of healthy relationships.  This workshop is concerned with the recognition and treatment of an increasingly common condition that has the potential to damage an individual and destroy the relationships that define their lives.
